Tulum is about an hour further down the coast from Playa del Carmen and is definitely the most beautiful beach I´ve ever seen. For some reason it is almost completely untouched by tourists but I´m sure it won´t stay that way. The town itself is very ugly and is basically on the main road which runs down the coast. We stayed very near the Mayan ruins which sit on the cliff top and gave them a fabulous view of the sea and any invaders! The beach had powder white sand and crystal clear water... and almost no people. Sadly the weather wasn´t so good so we didn´t spend much time sitting on the beach - the wind made the lovely powdery sand blow everywhere... would have made for lovely crunchy sandwiches if we had any :)
